What are privately funded works?
Many people fall outside the eligibility criteria of government funded schemes, yet they still wish to improve their homes - either to make their home more efficient and reduce running costs, or to decouple their bills from rising energy prices or simply because of their environmental viewpoint.
Often they may have existing fossil fuel technologies coming to end of life, or live in a home with poor insulation, or both and want to upgrade the fabric and energy efficiency of their home for better control of future running costs and improvements in general comfort.
The main difference between funded works?
The client is paying for the work themselves - either through savings, loans or windfalls. This gives them control of what they want to have installed, subject to any Building Regulations restrictions, and allows them to combine various technologies to suit their specific needs.
Often the documentation burden will be lower as less is usually required in terms of proofs of ownership or ability to demonstrate specific SAP improvements.
This means that administratively, such work can be more efficiently delivered.
Is compliance still important?
YES! While privately funded works don't have to meet the criteria of specific schemes they still need to comply with relevant Building Regulations, PAS and MCS guidance.
Surveys will still need to be undertaken, evidence gathered and documented and the installation process documented to the satisfaction of relevant bodies like MCS or Trustmark.
How do I find the work?
Unlike some government schemes, privately funded work is entirely installer led.
You can advertise in social media, leaflets, print, radio or engage lead generators going door to door.
